Village Thought Dean Martin Came to Grab a Widow's Farm at Auction — Then He Raised His Hand
Jefferson County, Ohio, spring 1962. A widow named Edna Hollinger stands in her own farmyard, eight miles outside Steubenville, and watches her late husband's cows, tractor and fields being sold off to pay the bank. A land developer from Pittsburgh opens with a bid low enough to leave her with nothing.
At the gate, in a dark overcoat and borrowed rubber boots, leans the most famous man ever to come out of that corner of Ohio: Dean Martin. The whole township is sure he's come home to grab the land for a golf course.
Then he raises his hand.
What Dean did with that farm, and the frozen January night in 1940 that only he and one quiet dairy farmer knew about, stayed a secret in one Ohio family for more than thirty years.
🌾 Stay to the end for what was laid at Dean Martin's resting place in Westwood in 1996.
